Dr. Hugo Pinillos was born and raised in Guatemala where he attended medical school and graduated valedictorian of his class. After completing his training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology in Chicago and New York City, respectively, he moved to Phoenix where he worked in private practice for 11 years. In 2015, he joined the faculty at the Phoenix VA Medical Center and the UOACOM-P GI fellowship program where he has been bestowed ‘Faculty of the Year’ award in 2018 and 'Teacher of the Year Award' in 2022 and 2023 by the GI fellows. Dr. Pinillos’ interests in GI are varied and include GI infections, Irritable bowel syndrome-SIBO, Eosinophilic esophagitis, PPI pharmacogenetics, and capsule endoscopy. When Dr. Pinillos is not busy with patients and fellows at the Phoenix VA, he enjoys spending time with his family and cheering on his favorite local soccer team.
