Biography
Dr. Derek Bumgarner was born and raised in the western suburbs of Chicago. He pursued his undergraduate degree in history at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He later returned to the Chicago area for medical school where he developed a strong interest in pathology.
After completing a residency in anatomic/clinical pathology, Dr. Bumgarner joined the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner for a one year fellowship in forensic pathology. There, he developed a particular interest in cases of natural death with uncertain and complex etiologies.
Away from work, his interests include American history, the Chicago Cubs, traveling and fine cigars.
